Family camp is great for newly dianose families. This is a fun way to get the infomation you are looking for, educate your family and community in a casual setting. In the past these are some of the diabetes education topic that were covered:
 

Sick day management and Eating disorders and Diabetes with Dr. Kathy Eckert
• Guilt in a diabetic family with Dr. Steven Graybar
• At Home basal testing with Verna Presser RN/ CDE and Certified Pump Educator
• Why your diabetic child lies with Bonnie Martin RN
• Stanford Trial Net Study and New Diabetes Research with Annie Zucker, lab tech and type 1 diabetic
• Why carbohydrate counting is good for the whole family and what parents responsibilities are to whole family during meal times with Barb Scott RD and CDE

Along with these topics, the families also had a chance to partake in family challenge course games, arts and crafts, archery, parachute challenge, family movie night, camp songs and how to prepare fun, healthy snacks. This program really helps ease the anxieties of the newly diagnosed by allowing them to see that they are not alone by talking to other families and an opportunity for them to get their medical and social questions answered in a casual setting. Family Camp is a wonderful opportunity for families to gains ease and friendships With families dealing with similar situations.
